Snowman Trek (29 Nights / 30 Days)

The Snowman Trek  is an extension of the beautiful Laya Gasa Trek and leads from Laya into the high altitudes of the Bhutanese Himalayas. It takes tough and enduring trekkers into the Lunana region and further on to Gangkar Puensum and Sephu in Trongsa district. The Snowman trek leads through the most remote areas up to very high altitudes. Trekkers have to camp in altitudes above 5,000m more than once, and depending on the seasonal temperatures, the camps are sometimes on snow.

Snowman Trek – 29 Nights / 30 Days 

Day 1: Arrive in Paro. Settle in, rest, and prepare for the trek.

Day 2: Paro to Gunitsawa Village. Drive to the trek starting point and begin hiking. Camp at Gunitsawa.

Day 3: Trek from Gunitsawa Village to Sharna Zampa. Walk through forests and along the river. Camp at Sharna Zampa.

Day 4: Trek from Sharna Zampa to Thangthangkha. Continue through valleys and forests. Camp at Thangthangkha.

Day 5: Trek from Thangthangkha to Jangothang. Enter higher altitudes with mountain views. Camp at Jangothang.

Day 6: Acclimatization day at Jangothang. Optional hikes and exploration.

Day 7: Trek from Jangothang to Lingshi. Cross high passes and enjoy panoramic views. Camp at Lingshi.

Day 8: Trek from Lingshi to Chebisa. Pass remote villages and natural beauty. Camp at Chebisa.

Day 9: Trek from Chebisa to Shomuthang. Traverse steep ascents and alpine meadows. Camp at Shomuthang.

Day 10: Trek from Shomuthang to Robluthang. Cross more mountain passes. Camp at Robluthang.

Day 11: Trek from Robluthang to Limithang. Surrounded by glacial peaks. Camp at Limithang.

Day 12: Trek from Limithang to Laya. Enter the remote Laya village. Camp or stay in a local guesthouse.

Day 13: Rest day at Laya. Explore the village and enjoy local culture.

Day 14: Trek from Laya to Rhodophu. Continue through highland pastures. Camp at Rhodophu.

Day 15: Trek from Rhodophu to Narethang. Walk through remote, rugged terrain. Camp at Narethang.

Day 16: Trek from Narethang to Tarina. Cross high passes and descend to the valley. Camp at Tarina.

Day 17: Trek from Tarina to Woche. Pass through forested hills and small settlements. Camp at Woche.

Day 18: Trek from Woche to Lhedi. Follow the river to Lhedi village. Camp at Lhedi.

Day 19: Trek from Lhedi to Thanza. Walk through wide open valleys and reach Thanza. Camp at Thanza.

Day 20: Rest day at Thanza. Explore the village and acclimate.

Day 21: Trek from Thanza to Danji. Begin the journey into the highest sections of the trek. Camp at Danji.

Day 22: Trek from Danji to Tshochena. Cross mountain passes and camp at Tshochena.

Day 23: Trek from Tshochena to Jichu Dramo. Continue through high-altitude wilderness. Camp at Jichu Dramo.

Day 24: Trek from Jichu Dramo to Chukarpo. Traverse more wild terrain and camp at Chukarpo.

Day 25: Trek from Chukarpo to Thampe Tsho. Pass alpine lakes and camp by the water.

Day 26: Trek from Thampe Tsho to Maurothang. Cross a final high pass and camp at Maurothang.

Day 27: Trek from Maurothang to Sephu. Descend from the mountains to the end point at Sephu. Finish the trekking portion.

Day 28: Drive to Punakha. Return to comfort, visit local sites, and relax.

Day 29: Rest and explore Punakha. Enjoy the scenery, visit the fortress, and celebrate your trek.

Day 30: Return to Paro for departure. Reflect on your journey and prepare to head home.
